DRACUT, MA- Jacobs, Mary J. (Battaglino), 84, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on March 19th. She was the beloved wife of 41 years to the late Stanley P. Jacobs. Mary was born in East Orange, NJ and was the daughter of the late Antonio Battaglino and Giovaninna “Jennie” (Picariello) Battaglino. Mary was a graduate of Cambridge Latin High School in Cambridge, MA. She worked as a medical secretary at St. John’s Hospital and at several local medical offices. She volunteered her time for the Holy Trinity Seniors Center and Dracut Boosters and was a member of Dracut Seniors and Sodality of Our Lady of Czestochowa. She was very talented and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, drawing, painting, crafts and cake decorating. She was a skilled seamstress known for making Christening outfits, prom dresses and wedding gowns for many including her own family. Mary had a kind heart and always put others first, especially those in need. She brought up six loving children who were taught the value of life. She loved life and enjoyed it to the end. She was a fighter. Mary always said, “Enjoy life while you have your health” and she did. She will live in the hearts of her family and friends forever. Mary is survived by her children Stanley L. Jacobs and his wife Patricia of Tyngsboro, MA; John Jacobs of Hudson, NH; Mary Ann Horaj and her husband Frank of Windham, NH; Joseph Jacobs and his wife Marlane of Pelham, NH; Nancy Puterio and her husband Peter of Kingston, RI; and Robert Jacobs and his wife Amy of Windham, NH. She was also the cherished grandmother of Kristine Duhamel, Samantha Barrett and husband Aaron, Angela Jacobs and Jeremy Jacobs; Nicole Jacobs, Jennifer Ouellette and husband Joe; Michael Horaj and wife Julia, Stephen Horaj; Jessica Jacobs and Jared Jacobs; Matthew Puterio, Lisa Puterio, and Timothy Puterio; and Brandon Jacobs, Cameron Jacobs and Danielle Jacobs; five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson Adam Jacobs, US Army Retired. Mary was the loving sister of John Battaglino and her twin brother Anthony Battaglino, who has been an invaluable support system and by her side for many years; her sister Ida Goffredo and husband Angelo (George); sister Jennie Laurenza; and brother-in-law Frank Riccio. She cherished her friendships with Rosie, Sally and Antoinette. Dracut, MA – Gerald Thomas Foley, 82, died peacefully, Sunday, March 20th, at Northwood Rehab and Nursing Center with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Helen B. (Marchand) Foley, his wife and best friend. Born in Lowell, MA on March 24, 1934, Gerald was a son of the late Catherine T (Armstrong) and George Foley. He was educated in Lowell and a graduate of Lowell High School Class of 1952. He received his Bachelors Degree from Fitchburg State College. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves for 9 years and was a proud American. For many years, Gerald worked as a Purchasing Manager for Raytheon and I-Tech In his younger years, Gerald was a talented athlete. He played semi-professional Football, was an avid golfer, and boxed for the Lowell Golden Gloves for many years. Gerald also loved dancing with his wife at various social gatherings. He was a devoted, dedicated, and faithful catholic, and a member of the Ste. Marguerite D’Youville parish. Along with his wife Helen, Gerald is survived and will be deeply missed by his daughter, Kathleen Foley-Starr and her husband David of Pelham, NH; his brother, Robert P. Foley and his wife Margaret of Lowell, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, George “Buddy” Foley. DRACUT, MA – Robert N. Martin, 81, died at his home, Tuesday, March 22, 2016. Born in Jamaica, Queens, New York, Robert was the son of the late Laurits and Agnes (Gunderson) Martin. He was raised in New York and educated in her public schools. He graduated magna cum laude from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Minnesota with a bachelors degree in Philosophy. In 1956, Bob enlisted in the US Army Medical Corps, and proudly served in South Korea immediately after the Korean Conflict, and for many years after, continued with the Army Reserves. While stationed in Korea, Bob spent part of his time as a technical writer. For many years, Bob worked as a technical writer for Mitre Corporation. He always spoke highly of Mitre, and valued the friends and colleagues with whom he worked. Bob enjoyed poetry, travel, art, classic movies, and listening to jazz at any one of his favorite clubs in New York City. Robert is survived and will be deeply missed by his two sons, Erik Martin and his wife Junko of Minnesota and Earl Martin and his wife Cindy of California; five grandchildren, Shin, Arthur, Emika, Nathaniel and Teresa; his girlfriend, Elena Trubina of Russia; and his dear friends, Alicia and Barbara Page, Dave Cleary, Jerry Saastad, and Kim and Angel Huertas. LOWELL, MA – Susan E. (Kolios) Killam, 62, of Lowell died Wednesday morning at her home after a brief illness. Born in Lowell on June 28, 1953, Susan was a daughter of the late Paul Kolios and the late Ellen (Lajoie) Kolios. Years ago, Susan worked as a switch board operator for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Welfare and several banks in Lowell. Susan enjoyed going to bingo and reading, going to the beach and especially spending time with her grandchild. She is survived by a daughter, Leah Moran and her husband Mark of Dracut; son, Charlie Carr of Florida; her siblings, Steven Kolios and his wife Nancy of Merrimack, NH, and Amy Gagnon and her husband Paul of Dracut; her niece, Stephanie Huff and her husband Tyler of Goffstown, NH; grandchildren, Zachary Moran and Olivia Carr; and a great niece, Trinity Huff; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was also the sister of the late Carl and Peter Kolios. Andrea Clark
Andrea Ruth Clark September 23, 1939 to March 26, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Andrea Ruth Clark (Stone) in the early morning of March 26. She is survived by her husband William Clark, her daughter Suzahne Riendeau, her son Michael Riendeau, her brother Norman Stone, her sister Beth Stone and several nieces and nephews. Andrea was born on September 23, 1939 in Lynn, MA. She was raised in Swampscott. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Emmanuel College. When she was 22, she married Maurice Riendeau and had two children, Suzahne and Michael. For 12 years she taught art and special education in several schools, moving frequently. She subsequently divorced but maintained a supportive relationship with Maurice. On April 30, 1977, she married Bill Clark and they enjoyed that rarest of gifts, a deep and wonderful relationship until her passing. After her second marriage, she earned a Master’s Degree in Nutritional Counseling at Leslie University. In 1988 she and Bill moved to Maine. She and Bill lived in Machias, where he was superintendent of schools. She resumed teaching art to gifted and talented students in Washington County, traveling to as many as seven schools per week to help foster student creativity. Then they lived in Perry in a house designed by Andrea and her brother Norman. After a short time living in nearby Eastport they moved to Homosassa, FL in 1988, where both she and Bill worked as administrators at Dragon Rises College of Oriental Medicine in Gainesville. In May of 2011 they moved back to Andover, MA in order to be near her son and daughter. Throughout her life Andrea was actively engaged in creative projects. She painted beautiful seascapes and was an accomplished portrait artist. She published two novels and a nonfiction book on healing practices. She was an ordained minister with a license to perform marriage. She organized and led women’s groups, including a 40-member “Spirit Circle” in Florida and a “Croning Ceremony” in Maine when she turned sixty. She had the ability to create a beautiful harmonious home wherever she lived and her home often served as a haven for those who needed it. She always threw a good party. She was open-minded, determined, resilient and embraced changes of all kinds. She enjoyed Robert Parker mysteries, TV detective and game shows, buying new earrings, and Kendal Jackson wine (until she gave it up). She loved the beach. She spoke her mind, she made a mean spaghetti sauce, and she was not afraid of technology. She was a loving and supportive friend, forming warm and lasting friendships in all the many places she lived. She always had animals by her side. She shared everything she had and put thought and heart into the many gifts she gave. Throughout her life she remained committed to both learning and to teaching. LOWELL, MA- Luis M. Artur, 82, died peacefully at his home, Tuesday, March 29th, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Helena S. (Tavares) Artur with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. Luis was born in Bombarral, Portugal on December 26, 1933, a son of the late Guelhermina (Martins) and Antonio Artur. For many years, he worked as a Machine operator at Wang Labs Lowell, MA. Luis was extremely active and well known in the Portuguese community. He was past President of the Portuguese Civic Club “Reds” and helped coordinate and run many of the Portuguese Feasts. Luis was an avid Soccer fan, and his favorite team was Sporting Clube de Portugal. He also loved animals. Along with his wife, Helena S. Artur, Luis is survived by his three children, Anabella Silva and her husband Olinto of Dracut, Maria Donovan and her husband James of Derry, NH and John Artur and his wife Dawn of Nashua, NH; four grandchildren, Derek Silva and his wife Kim of Dracut, Caitlin Silva and her Fiancé Michael Walker of Tyngsboro and Kyra and Sierra Artur of Nashua, one great granddaughter Alexis Silva of Dracut; his sister, Gracinda Fernandes of New Bedford, as well as other siblings in France and Portugal and many nieces, nephews and cousins. DRACUT, MA – William J. Murphy Jr. died April 1, 2016, peacefully at Heywood Hospital, Gardner MA. He was born in Lowell, MA on January 3, 1931, the eldest son of the late William J. Murphy and Mary S. (Mollie) Hastings Murphy. He attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1949. He was a proud member of the Ray Riddick coached LHS Red Raiders football team. Bill, as friends and family called him, retired from New England Telephone Co. (now Verizon) after 37 years of employment. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the I.B.E.W. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge CV-33 during the Korean War. He was awarded the Korean War Medal – with 2 Stars, Combat Action Ribbon, China Service Medal, United Nations Medal and National Defense Medal. Bill is survived by his sons, William Murphy of Goffstown, N.H. and Neil Murphy of Dracut, MA, and daughters Brenda Donoghue of Tewksbury, MA and Robin Marchand of Pelham, NH. He leaves his youngest brother Brian J Murphy of Wolfeboro, NH and sister in law Bernice R. Murphy of Ayer, MA. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Bill was the eldest brother of the late Robert G. Murphy and M. Sheila O’Malley. DRACUT, MA- James A. Wilson III, 24, died Friday, April 1st after losing a long battle to addiction. He was the father to a beloved daughter, Keira N. Wilson. Born December 24, 1991 in Boston, MA, James was the son of James A. Wilson Jr. and Caroline (Brown) Wilson of Dracut. He was educated in Dracut and a graduate of Dracut High School, where he made lots of friends. James loved the time he was able to spend with his precious daughter, especially watching Scooby Doo with her. He was a lover of the outdoors and enjoyed bike riding and skateboarding. He also spent time camping up in Old Orchard Beach, Maine with his family. In addition to his parents and daughter, James is survived by his sister Victoria E. Wilson of Dracut; maternal grandmother, Claire N. Brown of Dracut; Uncle David Brown of Freemont, NH and several cousins. DRACUT, MA- Denis W. Hebert 64, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away on Thursday April 7th at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill, MA, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous year long battle with sarcoma. Denis was born in Lowell, on July 2, 1951 to the late Willis P. and Priscilla J. (Morency) Hebert. He was educated in Lowell and a graduate of Keith Academy class of 1969. He proudly served as a Police Officer in Nashua NH in the 1970s and also worked for many years as a mechanic for Crane Rental in Tewksbury. Most recently he was self-employed at D&J Home Services in Dracut. Denis touched so many lives along the way and he will always be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor and his selfless giving spirit. Denis was so proud of his family and they were equally proud of him. He leaves behind his wonderful wife and sweetheart, Joyce (Kayajanian) (Griagosian); his mother in law, Libby Kayajanian who was like a mother to him; his beloved children Marcie Hebert-Maccaro and her wife Karen, Nicole Bordeleau and her husband Ryan, Denis Hebert Jr. and his wife Nadia (Jbilou), Matthew Giragosian and his wife Ashley (Ogden), Jennifer Giragosian and her partner Derek Beatrice; his cherished grandchildren, Dylan, Kaylie, Emerson, Zoe, Rylann, Saige, Jeremy, Mia and Avery; his brother John Hebert and wife Kellie (Howell); sisters, Priscilla Sullivan and her husband and his best friend Joseph, Michelle Maher, Elaine Tremblay and her husband Donald, and Christine Teixeira and her husband Michael. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Bruce Kayajanian and his wife Patty; sister-in-laws, Mary Gail Giragosian and her husband Paul, Brenda Moran and her husband Steve. Uncle Den was an inspiration and role model to his many nieces and nephews who will always miss his witty jokes and smiling face. He is also survived by his lifelong friends, Scott and Eileen Gibson. Denis will always be remembered for his giving spirit. He leaves us with a legacy of always being grateful, kind, selfless, and humble, a legacy we will all continue in his absence. DRACUT, MA- Frank W. Collins, 70, died Thursday, April 7th, at his home, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 30 years to Florence M. (White) Collins. Born in Lowell, MA on June 3, 1945, Frank was a son of the late Lena M. (Meserve) and Ollie E. Collins. He was educated in the Lowell Public School System. For many years, Frank worked for the City of Lowell as part of the Park Department and other branches until his retirement in 1999. Frank was an avid sports fan and especially loved to cheer on the Patriots and the Red Sox. His favorite time was spent drinking a cold beer and being surrounded by his family. Along with his wife Florence, Frank is survived and will be deeply missed by his 3 children, Laura L. Valkavitch and her husband Hank of Lowell, Christopher Murphy and his wife Kerry, and Kerryann Davis, all of Dracut; his sister, Donna Stattuck of Dracut; borthers, Kenneth Collins of Lowell, and Kevin Clegg of Dracut; Grampa’s boys, Dev’yn and Dakari Davis; Pa’s girls, Mackenzie, Destiny, and Kailey Marie; and three grandsons, Doug, Chris, and Nick; and several nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins and friends. Janice Rita (Goulet) St.Hilaire, 78 of Lawrence, passed away on April 28th at St. Elizabeth Hospital with her loving family by her side. Daughter of the late Albert and Agnes (Baron) Goulet, Mrs. St.Hilaire has been an area resident all her life. She worked as a nurses aide at the Town Manor Nursing Home, enjoyed playing bingo but most of all she loved to spend time with her family. Mrs. St.Hilaire was pre-deceased by her sisters Jeanet Goulet, Claire Becotte and her brother Russell Goulet. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years Roland St.Hilaire, three sons; Brian St.Hilaire Sr. and his wife Frances of Derry, NH, Roland St.Hilaire of Lawrence, Russell St.Hilaire and his wife Elizabeth of Nashua, NH. There are three grandchildren; Brian St.Hilaire Jr. Haleigh St.Hilaire, and Mathew St.Hilaire.
