Tyngsboro, MA- Paul Patrick Meehan Jr. “Pauly”, 30, of Tyngsboro, MA, died, August 8, 2015 – Our beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, and father. After many years of fighting his battle with addiction, Paul regretfully has been taken from us. Paul was working as hard as anyone ever has to beat a relentless and brutal opponent, and the battle simply wore him down. Now he is at peace with our merciful God in heaven, a peace he never found here on earth. We pray that the hearts and minds of this world open to see that people like Paul are of value, loved deeply, and are worth fighting this epidemic for. Peace and love to all who knew his pain and our sorrow. Paul leaves behind his mother, Kelly-Ann LeBlanc; stepfather Kenneth LeBlanc; father Paul Meehan, stepmother Karen Meehan; his brothers, Kevin Meehan and his wife Christine Meehan, Mark Spiller, and Brendan Meehan. He was a beloved father to Brady Edward Meehan, Molly Louise Meehan, and Kayleigh Alice Meehan. Paul is the grandson of Martin “Buster” and Alice “Sissy” Meehan, Edward Conway, Sue Conway-Tessitore, and Diane LeBlanc. He was the nephew of Suzanne and Norman Proulx, Anthony Schiripo Jr., Brian and Debbie Conway, David and Catherine Conway, Kevin and Deborah Conway, Colleen and John Turco, Kathleen and William Bailey, Martin and Ellen Meehan, Mark and Nanci Meehan, James and Mary Carnevale and Maureen Meehan-Gilet, and many cousins. TYNGSBORO, MA – Byrl C. (Rice) Hunter, 88, died peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2015 at her home of 70 years, surrounded by her loving family. Byrl was the wife of the late Earl H. Hunter, who predeceased her in 2007. They shared 62 years of marriage.  Born in Pepperell on March 6, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Donald E. and Erma V. (Logan) Rice. Byrl was employed at Bemis Bag Shop in Pepperell until marrying her love, Earl on April 28, 1946 and raising her family. She devoted her life to caring for her family whom she loved dearly. In her free time she worked on the family farm with her husband. After her children were grown, Byrl enjoyed traveling to places like Florida, California, Hawaii and many other destinations. She was a talented cook and made endless delicious meals for the entire Hunter family, but she also enjoyed trying new restaurants and going out to eat.  Byrl is survived by her two sons, Allan Hunter of Center Barnstead, NH and Arthur Hunter of New Ipswich, NH; her five daughters Linda Connell and her husband Warren of Tyngsboro, Paula Hamel of New Ipswich, Susan Bourdeau of Loudon, NH, Lisa Hunter also of Loudon, NH, and Faith Hunter of Tyngsboro; sisters, Thurlo Dow of Pepperell and Edith Tarr of Florida, and her brother Carlton Rice of Merrimack, NH. She is also survived by her 14 grandchildren, Jamie, Karin, Danielle, Charmaine, Jesse, Casey, Nicole, Leland, Crystal, Justin, Chris, Sonya, Michelle, and Steve; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; her caregiver and friend Linda Medeiros, who gave her the greatest care for 18 months, as well as her beloved cat Tommy who never left her side, and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, Byrl is predeceased by her daughter Shirley Rancourt, grandsons Jason and Adam Hamel; her siblings Roger and Edward Rice and Anita Buckingham.  ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut on FRIDAY, August 21st from 5 until 6:45 p.m. Her funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 6:45 p.m. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family. DRACUT, MA- Paul D. Kolios, 89, died, peacefully, Monday, August 24th at his home, with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his best friend and wife, Ellen I. (Lajoie) Kolios in 2011. Born in Lowell on October 16, 1925, Paul was the son of George and Elizabeth (Graham) Kolios. He was educated in the Lowell School System. He served his country proudly as part of the US Army during WWII until being honorably discharged at wars end. He was employed for 35 years as a nurses aid at the Bedford VA Hospital. He was also a self employed finish carpenter. Paul was a member of the Centerville Sportsman Club-Trap Team for 30 years. He also enjoyed hunting with his dogs and loved to travel in his motorhome to the beach, where he would surf fish often. Above all, his most cherished time was spent with his loving family. Paul is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, Steven Kolios and his wife Nancy of Merrimack, NH, Susan Killam of Dracut and Amy Gagnon and her husband Paul Gagnon of Dracut; two grandchildren, Leah Moran and her husband Mark of Lowell and Stephanie Huff and her husband Tyler of Goffstown,NH; two great grandchildren, Zachary Moran and Trinity Huff; his siblings, Donald Kolios and his wife Judy of Billerica, Dolly Weiner of Nashua, and Arlene Gordon of Fitchburg, as well as many nieces and nephews and his beloved cat, Sophie. He was predeceased by his sons Peter and Carl Kolios; his sister, Lillian Cronin; and brothers, Robert, Henry and Charles Kolios. LOWELL- Michael Francis Souza, 63, of Dracut, died Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Lowell General Hospital with his family by his side. Michael was born in Quincy on March 5, 1952. He was the son of Diana (Torcivia) Souza of Dracut and the late Joseph P. Souza. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corp until he was honorably discharged in 1972. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a post man for the US Postal Service in Shrewsbury. He is survived by his brother Steven Souza and his wife Joji Bucay of Dracut and his children Aaron Souza Sr. of East Boston, Renee Souza of Mrytle Beach, and Patrick Souza of Centerville, MA; as well as five grandchildren. Michael was predeceased by his brother Joseph Jr. and his sister Linda Testa. LOWELL- John J. Barrett Jr., 41 died suddenly on Friday, September 4, 2015 at his home. John was born in Lowell on January 28, 1974. He was the son of Carole (Birch) Barrett of Dracut and the late John J. “Jack” Barrett Sr. John graduated from the Greater Lowell Vocational High School. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling and playing cards. He was very grounded in his faith. Most of his cherished time was spent with friends and family. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sisters, Linda Levitsky of Temple, GA, Elizabeth McGowan and her husband Gregory of Wilmington, MA and Donna Caouette and her husband Joseph of Pelham, NH; his nieces and nephews, Ryan, Alyssa, Liam, Jared, Aidan, Devin and Andrew. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, James and Donna Barrett and Brenda and Peter DeSilvio all of Florida; as well as many cousins. Timothy Stephen Ahern, Jr., 78 of Hudson, NH and formerly a long time resident of Hampstead, NH, died peacefully at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH on Saturday, September 5, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Frances May (Bibeault) Ahern. Timothy was born in Medford, MA on May 25, 1937. He was the son of the late Timothy S. Sr. and Mary (O’Neill) Ahern. He graduated from Ringe THS in Cambridge. He proudly served his country during the Korean War as part of the United States Marines, until being honorably discharged in 1957. Prior to his retirement, Timothy was employed as a Union Pipe and Steam Fitter for 30 years for Local 537 and prior to that, for Local 138. In his younger years he was employed for GE. Timothy was know for his love of family, friends and gardening. He had a firm handshake, a bright smile and would whistle a tune wherever he went. His love of children was never mistaken as most children knew him as “Papa”. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Timothy Ahern of Newport, RI, Sharon Sinclaire and her husband Kenneth of Florida, Michael Ahern and his wife Candace of Plaistow, NH, Danielle Troy and her husband Timothy of Hudson, NH; one sister Patricia Powers of Hanover, MA; as well as nine grandchildren, Joshua, Shannon, Brianna, Bailey, Kenneth, Alexis, Jackson, Genevieve and Liam, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Timothy was predeceased by his sons Neil and Cameron Ahern; as well as his brothers Robert, John, and Eugene Ahern. Timothy’s family would like to extend a special thank all the nurses and staff at the Community Hospice House for all of the care, support, and kindness that they showed to them during this difficult time. CHELMSFORD, MA- Anastasia F. “Shula” Glavas, 71, died peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Greece on December 14, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Mary and George Glavas. Shula was a graduate of Holyoke High School; and then went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Prior to her retirement, she dedicated her career to taking care of others at the VA in Beford, MA where she worked for 37 years. In addition to her service to the VA, she also worked at many local nursing homes. In her spare time, Shula enjoyed many hobbies. An avid bowler, she belonged to two bowling leagues. She had a knack for playing Cribbage, and won many tournaments as a member in a Cribbage league. She also loved spending time with her friends, and dining out at various restaurants. Shula was predeceased by her sister Panagiota “Penny” Twomey in 2009. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her two sisters, Constance Glavas of Holyoke, and Bessie Glavas of Tarpon Springs, FL; two brothers Xenephon Glavas and his wife Pamela of Los Angeles, CA; and Demetrios Glavas and his wife Katrina of Oslo, Norway; six nieces and nephews, Stephen Twomey and his wife Amanda of Hudson, NH; Brian Twomey and his wife Alexis of Melrose, MA; Mitchell Glavas and his wife Susan of CA, Matthew Glavas and his wife Erika of CA, Beth (Glavas) Parwar and her husband Sasan of CA, and Steven Glavas and his wife Elin of Sweden; a great niece Ava Twomey; and a great nephew, Liam Twomey; as well as several other great nieces and nephews. Dracut, MA- Thaddeus E. Szarek, 79, died peacefully, Monday, September 21st, at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Veronica H. (Moriarty)  Szarek, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. Thaddeus was born in Lowell, MA on October 21, 1935, a son of the late Cecilia (Cebula) Golen and Walter Szarek. He was educated in Lowell and a graduate of Lowell High School. In 1954, Ted enlisted in the US Air Force where he reached the rank of Staff Sgt. and served his country proudly during the Korean War until being honorably discharged in 1958. For more than 30 years, Ted was employed as a Clerk for the US Post Office in Dracut. Ted was always a dedicated and devoted Dad, having coached his children and many other Dracut children in numerous sporting activities and also served as President of Dracut Pop Warner for many years. Ted also loved being outdoors, whether he was doing yard work, fishing or hunting. He was also an avid football and baseball fan.  Along with his wife Veronica, Ted is survived and will be deeply missed by his four children: Karen Bemis and her husband Paul of Bristol, NH, James Szarek and his wife Danielle of Lowell, Michael Szarek and his wife Sandra of Dracut and Cynthia Manning and her husband Nolan of Chester, NH; three sisters, Helen Goulas and her husband Steven, Sophie Frawley and Jane Wilkins all of Dracut,  7 grandchildren: Kristen Gould and her husband Robert, Jamie, Matthew, and Katherine Bemis, Nicolette Szarek and Jeffrey and Chloe Manning, as well as many nieces and nephews. Retired Lowell Firefighter and US Air Force Veteran DRACUT, MA- Lawrence J. Peaslee, 66, passed away Tuesday, September 22nd, at Lowell General Hospital. Lawrence was born in Lowell, MA on March 23, 1949, a son of the late Helen A. (Puchlopek) and Lawrence E. Peaslee. He graduated from Lowell High School, class of 1966. After High school, he enlisted in the US Air Force where he was trained in Air Traffic Control. For over 33 years, Larry worked as a Firefighter for the City of Lowell. He received his permanent appointment to the department in 1974. He was stationed at the Civic Center and then later assigned to Ladder 4 and Engine 6 at West Sixth Street. In April of 2009, he retired from the Fire Prevention Bureau. Prior to his career as a Fire Fighter, Larry worked for the Courier Citizen Printing Company and the New England telephone Company. Larry was a golfer who played in many local tournaments thoughout the area. He was also a member of the Lowell Retired Firefighters Association. After retiring, he spent his retirement years playing golf, and spending summer months at Hampton Beach. Larry was a true Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and Boston College football fan. Larry is survived by his daughter, Melissa Peaslee Feldman; two grandchildren, Carson and Quinn Feldman; his sisters, JoAnn (Boyd) Bousquet, Deborah Smith and her husband Kenneth; brother, Gerald Peaslee and his wife Roberta; his longtime companion, Alicia Christakos, and her entire family who cared for Larry deeply; as well as his close friends, Paul Dalton and John St. Onge and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother in-law, Dr. Gerald Bousquet. TYNSGBORO- Janet C. (Dingle) Berry, 81, died peacefully at her home on Monday morning, September 21, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Norman H. Berry Sr. with whom she shared 61 years of marriage on the day of her passing. Janet was born in Tyngsboro on June 28, 1934. She was the daughter of the late James A. and Marion M. (Tainsh) Dingle. She was educated in Lowell and was graduate of Lowell High School. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a school secretary for the Tyngsboro School System at the Lakeview School for 20 years. In her free time she enjoyed knitting and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the National Honor Society which was an award she received 50 years after graduating. Janet was also a life long parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church. In addition to her husband, Janet is survived by her three children, Norman Berry Jr. and his wife Sherry of Candia, NH, Frank R. Berry and his wife Tricia of Tyngsboro, and Janet Enwirght of Tyngsboro; her six grandchildren Matthew, Kristen, Kelly, Frankie, Arinn, and Katherine; and one great-grandson David. Janet was predeceased by her son Wayne Berry and her siblings Robert Dingle, Genevieve Conners, and Marion Bomil. LOWELL- Gayla J. (Dubey) (Carter) Ireland, 56, died peacefully, September 30, 2015 at Lowell General Hospital, Saints Campus. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Susan E. Ireland with whom she shared 11 years of marriage. Gayla was born in Chelmsford on June 24, 1959. She was the daughter of the late John E. Dubey Sr. and Gladys M. (Mueller) Dubey. She was employed as a general manager for Store 24 Corporation for over 20 years and managed the Appleton Street store. In her free time, Gayla loved puzzles and playing board games. She also enjoyed her many trips to Maine, but her most cherished time was spent with family, especially time with her grandchildren. She was educated in the Lowell School System and was a graduate of the Greater Lowell Vocational Technical High school. For several years, Sheila worked at the Outpatient VA Clinic as a Medical Clerk. In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived and will be deeply missed by her two children, Ashley Linger and her husband James of Dracut, and Donald Emond of Dracut; a step-son, Michael Reid, Jr. of Lowell; 3 siblings, Rodney Gerard and his wife Gina of Tewksbury, Garry W. Hedrick with whom she shared many loving years of marriage until his passing in 1982. Born in New Bedford on May 19, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Jan and Michalina (Piterak) Dziura. She was educated in New Bedford and then went on to earn a degree at Lowell Commercial College. After working for the Department of Defense in Washington, DC, Wanda dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was an active member of St. Casimir’s Church in Lowell where she volunteered countless hours of her time, including making pierogi. She also enjoyed baking and knitting, donating many handmade items to others. She was especially known for her afghans, stuffed animals, and winter hats and scarves. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her daughter, Shirley Garvey of Dracut; daughter-in-law, Linda M. Hedrick of Hudson, NH; a sister, Isabel Dziura of Lowell; a brother, Walter Dziura of Hingham; and four grandchildren, Lindsey E. Hedrick and her wife Dana of Amherst, NH, Caitlin H. Fuentes and her husband Joshua of Hudson, NH, Sarah Garvey and her companion Jamaal of Dracut, and Kerrie Garvey and her companion Joshua of Burlington, VT,; as well as four great grandchildren, Paige, Melina, Kira, and Kylee; her niece Janice W. Sweeney and her husband Donald of Dracut and nephew James Tuttle of Dracut. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Robert J. Hedrick; a sister, Janina Tuttle; and a great grandson, Liam. ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 9 to 11 a.m. on MONDAY, October 19th at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., Dracut. Her funeral service will take place directly following calling hours at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will take place in St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Pelham, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wanda’s name c/o St. Casimir’s Church, 268 Lakeview Ave., Lowell, MA 01850.
