NASHUA-Eileen F. “Lee” (Desmond) Kupstas, 70, formerly from Lowell, MA and Pelham, NH was called home by the Lord on November 30th at Nashua Crossings with her loving family by her side.

Lee was the beloved wife of John J. Kupstas who died June, 2013. She was the love of his life. They were married for 35 wonderful years, spending their time together traveling and entertaining.

Born in Lowell, MA on April 9, 1943, Lee was the daughter of Eileen C. (Grosse) Desmond of Lowell and the late Francis T. Desmond. She was a graduate of St Michael School and Keith Hall, Lowell, MA.

Lee began her working career at the Strand Theater in Lowell. She then was employed by ComFed Bank for 20 years as a teller, branch manager and then head of Deposit Operations. Lee ended her working career as administrative assistant to the Superintendent of the Lowell National Historical Park. She was a founding member of the Lowell Regatta Committee experiencing many planning sessions with wonderful friends that gathered at the Speare House in Lowell. She played an integral part in bringing the Folk Festival to Lowell.

In addition to her mother, Lee is survived by her devoted siblings, Robert “Desi” Desmond and his companion Virginia Sczerba of Palm Harbor FL and Patricia A. Garnhum and her husband Robert Garnhum of Tyngsboro. She also leaves her two loving nieces and God daughters who were instrumental in arranging for her nursing care, Jennifer Lee Moynihan, RN and her husband John Moynihan and their children Maeve, Conor and Shea and Kelly Anne Yonaker RN and her daughter Emma Eileen Yonaker. Lee is also survived by her nephews Kevin R. Garnhum and his wife Lenore of Haverhill and their son Joseph Garnhum, Ryan Desmond and his wife Lori of Templeton, and their children Marianna Eileen and Jaxson, and Robbie Desmond and his wife Christine. Lee also leaves her dear friends Mary Frances Gorman and Frances Kazalski, her extended family at Nashua Crossings who were lovingly dedicated to her care for the past three years. The entire staff has been outstanding in providing not only the care of her health but friendship as well.

Lee’s family also wishes to acknowledge the loving care that was provided by many individuals from Amedysis hospice care.

Relatives and friends are invited to join a celebration of Lee’s life at Dracut Funeral Home, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut on Tuesday December 3rd from 4 until 7 PM. Her funeral will take place from the Funeral Home on Wednesday at 9AM followed by her Funeral Mass at 10AM in St. Michael Church, Lowell. Internment to follow in ST Patrick Cemetery, Lowell. Harvey LaBrie

DRACUT- Harvey R. LaBrie Jr., 81, died Tuesday, December 3rd at Lowell General Hospital, after a prolonged period of declining health with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Rita E. LaBrie, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.

Harvey was born in Lowell on September 13, 1932, a son of the late Mary (Lepore) and Harvey LaBrie, Sr. He received his education in Lowell and was a graduate of Lowell High School, class of
1951.

Harvey was a proud decorated US Marine Veteran who actively participated in the Korean Conflict.

After his honorable discharge, Harvey was employed as a lithographer and worked as a Foreman at Prince Packaging in Lowell and Admiral Box in Methuen.

He was dedicated to his family and received his greatest pleasure spending time with his four grandchildren. His strength, courage, determination, and personal resolve were the greatest gifts to those he leaves behind.

Harvey loved all sports, gardening, and had a passion for great food, especially Italian fare.

He taught all who knew him great lessons in perseverance and will be deeply missed by all those who loved and knew him.

In addition to his loving wife Rita, he is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, Michael H. LaBrie and his wife Jane (Fadden) LaBrie, Gail (LaBrie) Nawn and her husband Theodore A. Nawn, four grandchildren, Melissa A. Nawn, Michael R. LaBrie, Ashley M. Nawn, and Kristen A. LaBrie, all of Dracut; and his mother-in-law Claire Sosnonwy of Dracut.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut on Thursday December 5th from 4 until 7 PM. His Funeral will take place from the Funeral Home on Friday, December 6th at 8 AM followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis Church in Dracut at 9 AM. DRACUT, MA- Alfred K. Law, 60, died peacefully, Thursday, December 5th at his home in Dracut.

Alfred was born in Hong Kong on December 10, 1952, a son of Lai Chun (Chu) and Kam Tim Lo of Vancouver, British Columbia and was one of nine siblings.

For many years, Alfred was part-owner of the former Ding-Ho Restaurant in Dracut and more recently worked at the Cafe Garden in Tewksbury.

Alfred enjoyed golfing, skiing and snow boarding and lived by the modo “Golf is Life”.

Along with his parents, Alfred will be missed by his 8 siblings, in Vancouver and Hong Kong; his best friend, Simon Hung of Andover; his friend and business partner, Terry Tsui; and 12 nieces and nephews and friends.

George Hondras

LOWELL- George J. Hondras, 89, passed away Sunday, December 8th, unexpecetedly at his home. He was the loving husband of the late Blanche L. (Hart) Hondras who passed away on October 29, 2010.

George was born in Lowell on March 3, 1924, a son of the late Anastasia (Marcopoulos) and John Hondras. He received his education in both Lowell and Dracut. He went on to further his education at the former Lowell Tech, now UMass Lowell.

For more than 35 years until his retirement, George was employed as a Mechanical Engineer for Ingersoll Rand.

He was a very talented artist, working with many mediums including stone and stained glass. He had a extraordinary talent for making treasures out of items others would discard. He enjoyed spending time at Cape Cod, working in his garden, but most importantly he loved spending time with his family, and especially cherished his grandchildren.

He was an active member of the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell, as well as a Freemason of the Scottish Rite Valley of Nashua.

George is survived by his daughter Christine A. Panagiotakos and her husband Steven Panagiotakos of Lowell; his son Charles G. Hondras and his wife Heather of Dracut;  seven grandchildren Ashley Nagele of Florida, Andrew, Courtney and Christina Hondras all of Lowell, Charlie Hondras of Dracut, and Georgiana and Alexandria Panagiotakos both of Lowell;  sister, Theoni Mele of Florida, sister-in-law Juanita Hondras, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother Charles Hondras and sister Christine Petrakes.

LOWELL, MA- Charles R. Maliszewski, 87, died Wednesday, December 11th, at Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Shirley (Wood) Maliszewski with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.

Charles was born in Lowell, MA on May 10, 1926, a son of the late Frances (Ogonowski) and Kasimir Maliszewski. He was educated in Lowell and a graduate of Lowell High School and went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Suffolk University. He also proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, until being honorably discharged.

For many years, Charles worked for the USDA.

Charles enjoyed traveling, taking daily walks, cooking and reading. He was a devoted and life long member of the Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell and was a part of the Holy Name Society and the Holy Trinity Senior Citizens Group.

Along with his wife Shirley, Charles is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, Janis A. Maliszewski, Elizabeth Maliszewski Tousignant, Charles R. Maliszewski Jr. and his wife Heidi Mosbarger, Ann Frances Maliszewski and her partner, Michelle Seybert; 2 grandchildren, David J. Maliszewski and his wife Elizabeth Stamm and Michael H. Tousignant, 3 sisters in-law, Kathy Maliszewski, Mary Wood Kerwin and Eleanor Wood McGuire; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

BILLERICA- Wallace Campbell Sheppard Jr., 60, died unexpectedly at his home Saturday afternoon, November 30th.

Wallace was born in Dracut on December 23, 1952. He was the son of the late Wallace C. Sheppard Sr. and Millicent Gertrude (Wacome) Sheppard. He received his education through the Dracut School system and was a graduate of Dracut High School.

He was employed at Wang Laboratories for many years and was also the former owner of Tucard’s Restaurant in Dracut.

Wallace enjoyed traveling, music and was an avid antique collector, but his most cherished time was spent with his loving family.

He is survived by his six children, Jennifer Toupin of Lowell, Donald Dwyer of Lowell, April Sheppard of New Bedford, MA, Emily Sheppard of Lowell, Timothy Sheppard and his wife Valery of Brooklyn, NY, and Wallace Campbell Sheppard III and his wife Sarah of Londonderry, NH; his siblings, Jean Demmons of Derry, NH, Joan Adams of Dracut, Edward Sheppard of Lowell, Roberta Sheppard of Meridan, CT, and Ruth Narankevicius and her husband Mark of Dade City, FL; his eleven grandchildren, Kayla, Noel Jr., Jacob, Devan, Angelina, Christian, Leo, Armando, Jesse, Jamie, and Jasmine; as well as his former wife Dianne (Martineau) Sheppard of Gardner, MA; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Wallace is predeceased by his grandson Javier Jr. and his former wife Patricia A. Toupin.

Christine (Tina) McDermott
Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother. 90

DRACUT- Christine “Tina” (Fadden) McDermott, 90, died peacefully December 14, 2013, after a period of declining health. For the past five years she resided in D’Youville Manor. She was the beloved wife of Edward T. McDermott with whom she shared 67 years of marriage.

Tina was born in Lowell December 23, 1922, daughter of the late William and Annie (Sommerman) Fadden. She graduated from Lowell High School class of 1940.

She was a girl officer and a member of the St. Rita’s cadets marching band where she played the trumpet. Following high school she was employed at Green’s Five & Dime and Marion Studios. Later, she retired from Lowell Lingerie in 1982 after 25 years of service.

She was a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and ceramics. For 20 years along with her husband, Ed, they travelled and wintered in Clearwater Beach, FL.

Tina was a communicant of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church in Dracut.

In addition to her husband, she is also survived by her children William M, McDermott and wife June of Tyngsboro, Sheila McDermott and husband Mark Salem of Dracut, Kevin McDermott and Ruth Szettella of Lowell, and daughter in law Bette McDermott of Bluffton, South Carolina. Her in-laws, Arthur McDermott of Lowell, Rita Vines of Chelmsford, and Dorothy Smith of College Park, Georgia. Tina was the loving grandmother of thirteen grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren. She will also be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends.

Tina was also the mother the late Edward T. (Rocky) McDermott who died 1/12/2009, and Nancy M. McDermott who died 1/2/1975. She is also predeceased by her sister Ruth Christie, five brothers, Harold, Nelson, Henry “Buster”, Robert and Russell Fadden.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at D’Youville Manor for the years of loving care.

DRACUT- Rose (Gazda) Maille, 84, died Friday, December 13th, at Merrimack Valley Hospice House, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of 63 years of the late Raymond J. Maille who passed away June 11th of this year.

Rose was born in Lowell on October 9, 1929, a daughter of the late Mary (Pattar) and Jan Gazda.

In her free time, Rose enjoyed dancing and cooking and in her younger years she also enjoyed crocheting but above all her most cherished time was spent with her loving family.

Rose is survived an will be deeply missed by her sons Jeffrey R. Maille and his wife Sharon and James M. Maille and his wife Robin, all of Dracut; her sister, Sophie Thibault of Lowell; 4 grandchildren, Jason and his wife Rebecca of Dracut, Stacy Wilson and her husband Edward of Townsend, Justin Maille of Dracut and Ian Maille and his wife Sina and family of Dracut, Shawn Griffin, and her step-granddaughter Julie Tamblyn of Dracut; 6 great-grandchildren, Morgan Rose Wilson, Madison Wilson, Taylor Maille, Matthew Maille, Michael Maille, and Logan Ralls; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her sisters Helen Plouffe, Stephanie Carrigan, Sr. Aloise Gazda, Sr. Agnes Gazda, and brother Fred Gazda.

NASHUA- Daniel P. Gookin, 74, died Tuesday, December 17th, at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua. He was the beloved husband of Carol A. (Murray) Gookin, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.

Daniel was born in Lowell on August 20, 1939, a son of the late Alice (McAlpine) and James L. Gookin. He received his education in Dracut and was a graduate of Dracut High School.

For over 30 years, Daniel was employed as a Territory Manager for Maremont Exhaust Systems.

Dan had a passion for politics and current affairs, and greatly enjoyed reading about history, but above all he was a family man, who enjoyed spending time with those he loved the most.

His family would like to extend a special thanks to Gerald Gehr M.D. and his team at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center.

In addition to his wife Carol, he is survived and will be deeply missed by his three children; Ann Hill and her husband Michael of Hinesburg, VT, Daniel Gookin and his wife Theresa of Essex Junction, VT and Maj. Christopher Gookin, ARNG and his fiancé Amy Kimball of Georgia, VT; four grandchildren, Nathan and Samuel Hill, and Jacob and Mila Gookin; his brother Robert Gookin and his wife Gail of Salem, NH, his brother-in-law Francis Murray and his wife Irene, and sisters-in-law Barbara Gookin and Kathleen Tanguay and her husband Andre, Amy’s children, Ethan, Elliot and Alexandria, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother James M. Gookin in October of this year.

Samuel Spinazzola

METHUEN- Samuel Spinazzola, 88, died Friday morning, December 20th at the Bedford Veteran’s Hospital. He was lovingly ministered to by his family during his illness and was surrounded by them in his final hours. He was the husband of Eleanor (Rizzo) Spinazzola with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.

Samuel was born in Boston on December 9, 1925. He was the son of the late Frank Spinazzola and Maria (DiPietro) Spinazzola. He had 5 sisters, Lucy Barboza,Theresa Conti, Rose Vento, Philomena “Spinny” Aiello and Ida Nania and 3 brothers Louis, Pasquale and Christopher all who predeceased him.

He proudly served his country, enlisted in the United States Marines during WWII where he was stationed in Guam and then served in China. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as Corporal.

Samuel worked as a police officer for the City of Boston for 25 years retiring in 1974. He then started his second career as a firearms instructor in Dracut and Methuen, training his final student this past August. He was also an auxiliary police officer for Dracut in years past.

Samuel was active in the local Marine Corps League Leo Fortier Detachment and was highly active in the Toys for Tots Program yearly. He also enjoyed carpentry, plumbing and electrical work and could always be found helping his family and friends remodel their homes or build furniture. Samuel’s passion was firearms and safety training but his most cherished time was spent with his beloved family.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by five children, Marie Ross and her husband Charles of Beckley, W. Virginia, Terri Riendeau and her husband Armand of Dracut, MA. Eleanor Sapienti of Lawrence, Frank Spinazzola and his wife Brenda of Marshfield, MA, and Samuel Spinazzola Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Methuen, MA. He had 13 grandchildren, Nick Ross, Kim Ross Vance, Jim Russo, Rick Russo, Mark Russo, Steve Sapienti, Samantha Sapienti, Jonny Sapienti, Alison Sinazzola, Andrea Anton, Sam Spinazzola III, Brittany Spinazzola and Kristen Gingras, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his granddaughter Lisa Spinazzola. He was adored by all of his family and was a highly respected member of the community.

The Marine Corps League Ritual will be held at 5pm at the Funeral Home. His Funeral will take place on Monday, December 23rd at 11 AM in the Winchendon Veteran Cemetery Chapel, 111 Glenallen St. in Winchendon, MA. DRACUT- Donald Cox, 87, died Wednesday, December 18th at Heritage Nursing Care Center, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Pauline L. (Levasseur) Cox, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.

Donald was born in Lowell on April 23, 1926, a son of the late Eva I. (Collins) and Thomas F Cox. He received his education in Lowell and was a graduate of Lowell Vocational School. After graduating, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.

For many years he worked as a Mechanical Engineer Manager for Prince Macaroni Manufacturing Company in Lowell from which he retired in 1983.

Donald enjoyed his time and holidays with his family and was a proud member of the National Safety Council and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.

In addition to his wife Pauline, he is survived and will be deeply missed by his son Donald Cox Jr. and his wife Linda of Hudson, MA, Patrick Cox and his wife Pen of Kearney, MO and daughter Nancy G. Chyko and her husband Andrew M. of Waterford, NY, 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, his siblings Dorothy Dalphond of Florida, and Normand Cox of Dracut.

He was predeceased by his brother Thomas Cox in 2001.

DRACUT- Nancy E. (Silva) Mercer, 72 died peacefully Sunday, December 22nd, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Charles R. Mercer, with whom she shared 30 years of marriage.

Nancy was born in Rochester, NH on September 18, 1941, a daughter of the late Mary (Maciejewska) and Anthony Silva. She attended the Lowell school system and was a graduate of Lowell High School, class of 1959.

For many years until her retirement, Nancy was employed in the electronics field. She will long be remembered for her love of her family, the beach, nature, and all animals, especially her cats, Jill and Willie, and those that have passed over the years, including Trixie, Jack, Margaret Kitty, Sebastian and Molly.

In addition to her husband Charles, she is survived by her children Janet Farinha and Scott Fillmore of Reading, Karen Farinha of Powder Springs, GA, Peter Farinha and his wife Lynn of Taunton, and Anthony Farinha of Merrimack, NH; her 11 grandchildren, Jeremy, Nancy, Emily, Dale, Casey, Zooey, Hannah, Quinn, PJ, Lauren and Ryan, as well as 11 great grandchildren Bryanna, Savannah, Jeremy Jr., Hunter, Gavin, Bailey, Dylan, Johnnie, Greyson, Madison and Harley. She was the sister of Dorothy Anne Goodwin of Maine and the late Anthony Silva Jr

John T. Davis, 75, of the Lowell area, passed away Thursday, December 26th, peacefully, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Lorraine M. Davis with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.

John was born in Lowell, a son of the late Barbara (Sperling) and Teotonio Davis. John graduated from Lowell Vocational School class of 1957. He continued his studies and graduated from Lowell Technical Institute class of 1969.

For 46 years, John worked at Raytheon. He started as an Assembler, then a Troubleshooting Technician, and ending his career as an Electrical Engineer retiring in 2003.

Along with his wife Lorraine, John is survived by his four children and their spouses, Carol Foote and Lee Trickett, Susan Davis, Thomas and Denise Davis, Evelyn and Robert Larson; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Stephanie, Anna, Alex, Aaron, Evan, and Chloe; five great-grandchildren, Anthony, Maria, Nicholas, Jason, and Alivia; his brother, William and Kathy Davis; brother-in-law, Frank Peters; many nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends. John was predeceased by his sister, Francis Peters.

Roland F. Monty

DRACUT- Roland F. Monty. 83, died Tuesday, December 24 at Fairhaven Health Care Center in Lowell, MA surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Annette M. (Briere) Monty with whom he shared 61 years of marriage on November 29th.

Roland was born in Lowell on June 7, 1930 he was the son of the late Arthur and Antoinette (Chaput) Monty. He was drafted into the Army, and as a result, he volunteered to join the marines where he proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954 achieving the rank of CPL.

After his service he worked numerous jobs to support his young family (working as many as 3 at a time) before joining Polaroid where he was employed as a mechanic specialist for 25 years.

In his free time Roland honed his many skills such as photography, woodworking, finish carpentry, masonry, and was a great all around problem solver to anyone who needed help or advice. Some of his favorite hobbies included passing on his many skills to his grandchildren, playing the piano and ballroom dancing for which he won several medals. Roland enjoyed living on “his” lake where he rescued many a boater in distress. Throughout his life he had a deep love and respect for all nature and wildlife.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, David Monty of Windham, NH, Noreen Judd of Laconia, NH Karen Clougher and her husband Tom of Tyngsboro, and Nancy Wilson and her husband Gary of New Ipswich, NH; his sister Jackie Cloutier of Lowell; nine grandchildren, Stacey and Justin Monty, Kimberly and Christopher McManus, Douglas, Kenneth, Zachary and Victoria Clougher, and Evan Boucher; his two great-grandsons Kyle and Evan as well as many nieces and nephews.

Roland is predeceased by his sisters, Terry Bernier and Dot McDougal, and his brothers, Normand, Bob, Donald, Ray and his twin brother, Paul Monty

DRACUT- Marion L. Giguere, 95, died peacefully, Saturday, December 21st at D’Youville Manor Senior Care Center in Lowell with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Wilbrod R. Giguere. Marion lived with her daughter Rita as her primary caretaker, which was a blessing to the remaining family and friends.

Marion was born in Dracut, MA on September 1, 1918, a daughter of the late Helen (Levy) and Augusta Landry.

Marion worked at Al’s Dress shop in Lowell and then as an Assembler at Western Electric, however her greatest job was dedicating her life to her family, whom she loved so dearly.

Marion was a talented stitcher and enjoyed bowling. She was a member of the Dracut Senior Center and enjoyed taking day trips with them as well as taking trips to the beach with her family.

Marion is survived and will be deeply missed by her 9 children, Jacqueline (Miss Jay) Chausse of Dracut, Pearl L. Nickles and her husband Harold of Windham,NH, Paul V. Giguere and his spouse Thomas Menk of CA, Rita Giguere of Dracut, Donald Giguere and his companion Pam Wells of Dracut, Linda Been and her husband Timmy of TX, Alfred Giguere of Dracut, Lucille Page and her husband David also of Dracut and David Giguere and his wife Amy of Meredith,NH; her sister in-law, Jeannette Boule of Dracut; 34 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marion was predeceased by her son, Robert O. Giguere.

The family would also like to thank all of the nurses and staff at the D’Youville Manor, especially the Rehab Unit, for all of the love and care they showed to Marion while she was there.
