DEVOTED HUSBAND AND FATHER. BUSINESSMAN. MARINE. HAVERHILL – Jerry Skaff, 89, died Saturday, February 15th at Country Center Rehabilitation in Newburyport, MA. He was the beloved husband of Lois (Karelitz) Skaff, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. Jerry was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 19, 1924, the son of Molly (Markowitz) Skaff and William Skaff. He graduated Howe High School in Lowell and then enlisted in the U.S. Marines, where he proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant during WWII. For many years Jerry was a prominent businessman in Lowell, where he owned and operated three garment manufacturing businesses, including Pleasant Dress Co., Banks Mfg. Co. and Skaff Mfg. Co, as well as JALB Mfg. Co. in Nashua, NH. Until recently, he worked alongside his sons for the past 24 years as the comptroller for Screen Gems, Inc. in Seabrook, NH. Jerry’s two passions in life were his work and his family. Even into his late 80′s, he remained active and engaged in the operations of the family business, much as he had through his entire life. But what he considered his most important role was that of devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle to the family he loved so much. In addition to his wife Lois, he is survived and will be deeply missed by his sons, William Skaff and his wife Jody of Hampton, NH, Andrew Skaff and his wife Jayne of Newburyport, MA; three cherished grandchildren, Jesse, Joel and Sydney Skaff; and niece and nephews Joanne Karelitz-Beauregard of Greenland, NH, Dr. Robert Karelitz of Durham, NH, and James Karelitz of Haverhill, MA, whom he loved like his own children. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Thursday, February 20th at 11:00 a.m., at Congregation Ahavas Achim Synagogue, 53.5 Washington Street, Newburyport, MA. Interment will follow in Children of Israel Cemetery, Route 110, Haverhill, MA. Visiting hours will be held at Andrew and Jayne’s residence, immediately following the burial until 7:30 p.m. Donations may be made in Jerry’s memory to Congregation Ahavas Achim or Country Center Rehabilitation, 180 Low St., Newburyport, MA 01950.
