Lowell, MA- Frances M. Pellegrino, 74, passed away Saturday, May 10th, at Lowell General Hospital. She was the beloved wife of 54 years to Joseph F. Pellegrino. Frances was born in Boston on June 20, 1939, daughter of the late Blondine (Hart) and Frank Regan. She was educated in Reading and a graduate of Reading Memorial High School and attended Chamberlayne Jr. College. For 18 years, she worked as an electronic assembler at Accutest and most recently at Tau-tron in Westford. Frances enjoyed reading, shopping, and going to the movies with her children and friends. However, her favorite thing to do was spend time with her children and grandchildren who meant so much to her. Along with her husband, Joseph F. Pellegrino, Frances is survived and will be deeply missed by 6 children, Joseph Pellegrino of Charlemont, MA, Michael Pellegrino of Lowell, Matthew Pellegrino of Lowell, Karen Pellegrino of Chelmsford, Elizabeth Buckley and her husband Sean of Dracut and Tish Pellegrino also of Dracut; 2 beloved grandchildren, Drew and Logan Buckley; siblings, John Regan and his wife Michelle of Salem, MA, Kathleen Woods of Beverly and Geraldine Gaffey and her husband Edward of Burlington; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. DRACUT- Bertha B. (Malyszko) Kosidlo, 93, died peacefully, in the presence of her family, Wednesday, May 14th, at D’Youville Manor Senior Care Center in Lowell. She was the wife of the late Peter S. Kosidlo. Bertha was born in Lowell, MA on November 24, 1920, a daughter of the late Julia (Dembrowska) and Anthony Malyszko. She was educated in Lowell and a graduate of Lowell High School. For many years, she worked as a Inspector at Raytheon. She enjoyed traveling all of her life. Bertha was a dedicated and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them. Bertha is survived and will be deeply missed by her 2 daughters, Barbara P. Zebroski and her husband Edmund of Chelmsford, and Donna M. Shanahan and her husband Paul of Pelham, NH; her sister, Helena Ciaravolo of Chelmsford; her 2 sister-in-laws, Virginia Chiasson of Pelham, NH and Sophie Kosidlo of Dracut; 3 grandchildren, Patriciann McCall and her husband Brian of Chelmsford, Kimberly Altenweg and her husband Henry of Tyngsboro, and Lynn English and her husband Michael of Chicago, IL; 6 great-grandchildren, Cole, Aidan, Liam and Bree McCall, and Hayley and Henry Altenweg; as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Mary Boumil. Margaret T. “Peggy” O’Neill Retired Schoolteacher, Dracut Public Schools DRACUT—Mrs. Margaret T. (Riley) O’Neill, 92, of Dracut, died Friday, May 16th, peacefully in her home surrounded by family. Peggy was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on November 14, 1921, the daughter of the late Lowell Atty. James H. and the late Pearl T. (Peltier) Riley. She grew up in the Christian Hill section of Lowell and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1939. Peggy graduated from Emmanuel College in Boston with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1943, and studied for her Master’s Degree in Education in 1944 at the University of New Hampshire with additional graduate work at Lowell State College (now University of Massachusetts Lowell). Peggy initially taught in the New Hampshire school districts of Newmarket and Farmington before joining the Dracut Public Schools in 1949, where she taught Social Studies at Dracut High School, then located on Greenmont Avenue. Peggy was a very loved and respected schoolteacher in Dracut throughout her tenure until she retired from the Dracut Public Schools in 1988. Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, a popular teacher, an accomplished pianist, and an avid gardener. Peggy is survived by her husband of 60 years, William F. O’Neill, of Dracut, retired Director of Elementary Education, Dracut Public Schools; two daughters, Judith O’Neill, MD, of Westminster, Mass. and Donna O’Neill and her husband, Rodney Parkin who reside in Sydney, Australia; son William F. O’Neill, Jr. and his wife Melissa of Shoreham, Vermont and their children, Peggy’s grandchildren, Virginia and Patrick O’Neill; the late beloved son, James A. O’Neill, who passed away in 1987; her niece, Kathleen O’Neill of Plymouth, Mass.; as well as several cousins in the Greater Lowell area. Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 LAKEVIEW AVENUE, DRACUT on Monday, May 19th from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday, May 20th at 9:30 AM followed by her Funeral Mass in ST. MARY MAGDALEN CHURCH IN TYNGSBOROUGH at 10:30 AM. LOWELL- Hilda M. (Morales) Degutarra, 86, died Monday, May 19th at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Pedro Gutarra. Hilda was born on April 13, 1928 in Huanuco, Peru. She was the daughter of the late Leonidas Morales and Juana (Rivera) Morales. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her seven children, Abilia Gutarra and her husband Jorge Lopez of Dracut, Gabriela Gutarra and her husband Luis Bravo of Lowell, Santos Gutarra and his wife Eliana of Billerica, Jesus Gutarra, Angela Gutarra, Delia Gutarra, and Daniel Gutarra all of Peru; her eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. DRACUT- Henry J. Kochanek, 84, died Saturday evening, May 17, 2014 at Lowell General Hospital, Saints Campus, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Maryjane (Larocque) Kochanek with whom he shared 55 years of marriage with. Henry was born in Lowell on November 23, 1929. He was the son of the late John and Mary (Zybura) Kochanek. He received his education in the Lowell School System and was a graduate of Lowell High School. He later furthered his education and received his bachelor’s degree from Bentley College. He proudly served his country during the Korean War enlisting in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged in 1953 For many years, Henry was employed as Vice President at Union National Bank and was also employed later as a comptroller for Keefe Associates and Nature Foods. Henry was a mason of the William North Lodge AF & AM. He loved summering at the beach but above all, he enjoyed spending time with his loving family. In addition to his wife is he survived by his daughter, Pamela Walsh and her husband Michael of Pelham, NH and his two grandchildren, Justin Walsh and his wife Jennifer of Billerica and Shaela Lappin and her husband Andrew of Lowell. DRACUT- Delma M. (Gard) April, 87, passed away Friday, May 23rd, at Fairhaven Nursing Home in Lowell. She was the beloved wife of the late Francis C. April. Delma was born in Lynn, MA on March 26, 1927, a daughter of the late Anne (Butler) and Percy Gard. She was educated in Lynn and a graduate of Lynn English. Delma dedicated her life to caring for her family whom she loved so much. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Delma is survived by her daughter, Debora Dean of Dracut; granddaughter, Nicole April of Lynn, MA and great granddaughter, Samantha April, also of Dracut. PELHAM, NH- Harry J. Wheeler Jr., 61, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband and best friend of many years to Judi J. Wheeler. Harry was born in Lowell on July 1, 1952. He was the son of Gladys L. (Topjian) Wheeler of Pelham, NH and the late Harry J. Wheeler Sr. He was raised and educated in Pelham. He was owner and operator of Harry J. Wheeler Concrete Floors and Foundations in Pelham for over 40 years. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. For many years you could find Harry J. in his “Office” at the Mammoth Road Club, where he made many lifelong friendships. In addition to his mother and wife, Harry is survived by daughter Christina Barbosa and her husband Louie of Dracut; his stepchildren, Melissa Grenier and her husband Curt of Salem, NH, Patti Pulliam and her husband Sam of Newport Richie, FL, and Jennifer Apitz and her husband Keith of Hudson, NH; his granddaughter Savannah as well as 9 step grandchildren and one step great-granddaughter. …0f Dracut, formerly of Tewksbury; 86 Dracut, MA – Gertrude E. Cavazzi of Dracut, Ma, formerly of Tewksbury, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2014 at home following a lengthy illness. She was 86. Gertrude was the beloved wife of the late Peter A. Cavazzi, Sr. who passed away 10 years ago. Born in Cambridge, Gertrude grew up as the only girl of 7 children of the late William L. and Jennie (Brignolia) Tracy. Gertrude was raised and educated in Cambridge, MA where she attended Cambridge schools. Gertrude and Pete were married nearly 65 years ago on November 18, 1949. Gertrude and Pete resided in Tewksbury, MA for more than 50 years where they raised their family. Following their marriage, the young couple settled in Somerville where they started their family, before moving to Tewksbury in the late 50’s. Together, Gertrude and Pete were inseparable and enjoyed spending time with their friends and family. Gertrude cherished spending time with her family, taking trips to the beach, reading, painting and creating lovely ceramic household accents for her loved ones. Gertrude will be missed by her three sons, William A. Cavazzi and his wife Elaine of Boca Raton, FL; Peter A. Cavazzi Jr. and his wife Kim of Dracut, MA with whom she made her home for the last 10 years; and Steven R. Cavazzi and his wife Vivian of Lowell, MA. She was the loving grandmother to 4 grandchildren, Mrs. (Clint) Shelley Stohler, Mrs. (Neal) Stacy Bruce, Mrs. (Mat) Shannon Turpin of Indiana; and Brian R. Cavazzi of Dracut, MA. She was pre-deceased by her 6 brothers, Vincent, Herbert, William, George, John and Laurence. She will also be missed by her loving nieces, Mrs. (Ben) Jane Clark of Michigan, and Mrs. (John) Kathy Carlisle of Cambridge, MA ; 2 sisters in law, Stella Tracy of Michigan and Isabel Tracy of Melrose, MA as well as many other nieces and nephews. DRACUT- Marianne E. (Gmachl) Bellefeuille, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday June 7 at the Fairhaven Healthcare Center in Lowell MA. Marianne was the only child born to Franz and Elisabeth Gmachl. She was born in Salzburg, Austria on July 31, 1927. She lived her early years in Seekirchen Austria where she graduated High School. Marianne met her future husband, Rudy Bellefeuille of Dracut MA during the latter part of WWII. She came to this country in 1946 at age 19, and married in 1947. She learned to speak fluent English and became a US Citizen during the 1950s. Marianne and Rudy were lifelong residents of Dracut, MA. Marianne will be remembered by her family and numerous friends for her sweet caring way and outgoing friendly personality. She loved her family, always enjoyed time with them. Marianne always expressed great appreciation for their support. She had a charming and gracious way about her that always turned new acquaintances into instant friends. Marianne maintained this same friendly positive attitude even during the last 5 years when her health slowly declined. Marianne was a devout Catholic all of her life and an active member of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Tyngsboro, MA. Marianne was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Rudy Bellefeuille. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her three sons and their wives, Rudy and Eileen Bellefeuille of Dracut, MA; Richard and Joyce Bellefeuille of Dunstable, MA; and Peter and Susan Bellefeuille of Derry, NH. She is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Msgr. Stanislaw Kempa

LOWELL- Msgr. Stanislaw Kempa, 66, longtime pastor of the Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity, died Tuesday, June 17th at Lowell General Hospital, Saints Campus. Msgr. Kempa was born in Tarnow, Poland on May 1, 1948. He was the son of the late Mieczyslaw Kempa and Teresa (Ciesla) Kempa. Upon completion of his Seminary Studies, he was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest by Bishop Jerzy Ablewicz, the Bishop of Tarnow, on May 27, 1973. In 1974, he received his Masters Degree in Theology-Cosmology awarded by the Pontifical Theological Institute in Cracow. After the sudden death of his mother in 1988, his teen-age sister was left alone in the family home in Tarnow. Since she was not able to carry on herself, he decided to ask the bishop to relieve him of his parish obligations to take care of his sister during these years. In 1991, his sister was of age to marry and so Father Stanislaw was relieved of his responsibilities toward her. He was then awaiting a new assignment from his Bishop In April 1990, Bishop Jerzy Ablewicz died and was succeeded by Bishop Jozef Zycinski as Bishop of Tarnow. The Cardinal Primate of Poland and Bishop Jozef Zycinski, after making arrangements with the American and Polish Episcopates, assigned Father Kempa to serve on a permanent basis in the Archdiocese of Boston, USA, with the agreement of Bernard Cardinal Law to work among the Polish people in the Archdiocese. On September 9, 1991, Father Stanislaw Kempa left Poland and began his permanent residence in the Archdiocese of Boston. He was assigned to the Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell and served as pastor from 1997-2014. He became a US citizen in August of 2001. He was a Chaplin of the Knights of Columbus, Lowell Council #72 and also a 4th Degree member of the Bishop Delany Assembly, since June of 1997. Msgr. Kempa is survived by his siblings, Martin Kempa and his wife Maria of Naperville, IL and Anna Siedlick and her husband Wieslaw of Poland; as well as other family members in the United States and Poland. Magoon Sr. Joan was born in Watertown, MA on June 7, 1938, a daughter of the late Ethel (Johnston) and Kenneth Magoon. She worked as a assembler at Wang Labratories for many years. She was a member of the Veterans Auxillary and Amaranth. Her greatest joy however came from spending time with her family whom she loved so much. Joan is survived and will be deeply missed by her 3 children, Joan E. Magoon of Hudson, NH, Roy C. Magoon Jr. and his wife Pam Bradley of Windham,NH, and Deborah A. Kenney and her husband Richard of Pelham,NH; brother, C. Robert Whittemore and his wife Patricia of Tewksbury; 8 beloved grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. DRACUT- Mr. Warren W. Johnston, 78, of Dracut, died peacefully at his home on June 19, 2014 with family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Edith A. (Kilpatrick) Johnston. He was born in Lowell in 1936, a son of the late Robert A. and Ruth E. (Keniston) Johnston. Warren proudly served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1961, as a member of the 8th Air Force. He was self-employed for many years as co-owner of Wil-John Construction in Lowell, then the owner/operator of State Line General Store in Newton, NH. Later he worked in various positions as a building inspector, service manager, and independent consultant before retiring. He enjoyed snowmobile and motorcycle riding, going out for breakfast, reading newspapers, changing the channel, offering his opinion, and spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his loving wife, Warren is survived by three daughters, Debra Barrett and her husband Paul of Hampton, NH; Denise Cleghorn and her husband Barry of Dracut; Theresa Dumais and her husband David of Tyngsboro; two sons, Michael Johnston and his wife Chiqui of Dracut; and Warren W. Johnston Jr and his wife Melissa of Atkinson, NH, three sisters, Barbara Geddes of Lowell, Norine Fearon and Linda Chateaneauf of Dracut, three brothers Edward Johnston of Oshawa, Ont. Canada, William Johnston and Douglas Johnston of Lowell, 11 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert Johnston, Nancy Carlson, and Richard Johnston. He was also predeceased by his twin sons, and granddaughter, Olivia Johnston, as well as several dear inlaws. The family would like to thank the people of Mill City Medical Center, the Fresenius dialysis center in Lowell, the home hospice staff of the VNA of Greater Lowell, and many dear friends for their care and kindness. DRACUT- Daryl J. Belleau, 30, died unexpectedly at Lowell General Hospital on June 19th, with his family by his side. Daryl was born in Lowell on March 9, 1984. He was the son of Kelley L. (Shattuck) Belleau of Lowell and Dennis R. Belleau and his wife Marguerite of Medford. Daryl was a graduate of Dracut Senior High School. He was employed by A to Z Movers for 10 years. He was a very hardworking man and loved watching Boston Sports especially the New England Patriots. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother Dylan Gagnon of Dracut; his paternal grandparents Robert and Jacqueline Belleau of Dracut; maternal grandmother, Donna Shattuck of Dracut; uncle David Belleau of Dracut; cousins Joseph and Chelsea Leclair of Dracut; as well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and relatives. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Joseph E. Shattuck. DRACUT- Velma A. (Austin) Parent, 87 of Dracut passed away Sunday, June 22nd 2014, peacefully, at Baker Katz Nursing Home in Haverhill. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Alfred C. Parent. Velma was born in Northern Maine, on September 5, 1926. She was educated in Maine, and worked in the Textile Mills as a young woman. Velma dedicated her life to caring for her family, whom she loved very much. Along with her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Alfred G. Parent, and is survived by her daughter in-law, Mary E. Parent of Haverhill; grandson, Matthew Parent, also of Haverhill; granddaughter, Stacey Stanley and her husband Jason of Gloucester; her son Mark Parent and his wife Susan; grandsons sons, Brain Bradley and Aaron Parent; great- grandchildren, Dakotah and Alex; her brother, Morris Austin and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral will take place from the funeral home at 8 a.m. on FRIDAY, June 27th with her Funeral Mass to follow at 9 a.m. at Ste. Marguerite D’Youville Parish/ St. Theresa’s Church in Dracut. DRACUT- Margaret M. Tandus, 65, passed away Sunday, June 22nd, at Lowell General Hospital with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of Edward J. Tandus for 45 years. Margaret was born in Lowell, MA on April 4, 1949, a daughter of the late Marion (Aubrey) and Gerald Lantagne. She was educated in Lowell and a graduate of Lowell High School. For many years, Margaret worked with her husband as business manager and partner for E.J. Tandus, Inc. Margaret was an avid reader who enjoyed trips to the beach, fishing, practical jokes and playing cards with her family. She enjoyed nothing more then spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Along with her husband, Margaret is survived and will be deeply missed by her 3 children, Carrie Kennedy and her husband Paul of Methuen, Katie Roemer and her husband John of Pelham and Ted Tandus of Lowell; her siblings, Gerri Wajda and her husband John, Gail O’Donnell and her husband Todd, Terry Carney, Martin Lantange and his wife Jean and Stephen Lantange and his wife Lynn;brother in-law Peter Ricciardi; her 2 cherished grandchildren, Meghan and John Roemer; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Ricciardi and brother in-law Mark Carney. ARRANGEMENTS: At Margaret’s request there will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are are invited to her Funeral Mass on FRIDAY, June 27th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Tyngsboro. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Jimmy Fund c/o Dana Farber Cancer Institute PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.

DRACUT- Fred W. Manty, 61, passed away Tuesday, June 24th, at Massachusetts General Hospital. Fred was born in Nashua, NH on July 18, 1952, a son of the late Mary E. (Doherty) and Frederick W. Manty. He served his county in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Fred is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Mendys) Manty, brothers, David Manty of NJ, Ken Manty of Nashua, William Manty of Arlington and Daniel Manty of Woburn; nephew, Joshua Manty; beloved cat Pumha and many close friends. DRACUT- Walter “Kenny” Ryan, 80, passed away peacefully FRIDAY, June 27th at Lowell General Hospital, Saints Campus. He was the beloved husband of the late Lorriaine (Couture) Ryan. Walter was born in Lowell, MA on December 18, 1933, a son of the late Margaret (O’Grady) and Walter E. Ryan. Walter proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War until being honorably discharged. For many years, Kenny worked as a barber on Lakeview Avenue in Dracut. He is survived by his brother Barry Ryan of Pelham; sisters, June Ryan also of Pelham and Nancy Chasse of Merrimack, NH; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. Joseph Varanoske

DRACUT- Joseph J. Varanoske, 89, died Sunday morning, June 29th at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Shirley (Taylor) Varanoske. Joe was born in Lowell on July 27, 1924. He was the son of the late Joseph S. Varanoske and Eva (Stonis) Varanoske. Joe was a graduate of Lowell High School. He then enlisted in the United States Navy during W.W.II and served on the USS Cabot Aircraft Carrier until he was honorably discharged. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a route salesman for 37 years at Essem Meat Packing Co. in Lawrence. Joe was a Eucharistic Minister for the former St. Joseph’s Lithuanian Church and was a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus both in Lowell. He enjoyed polka dancing at the Polish American Veterans Club of Lowell and also enjoyed skiing as a member of the Wedeln Ski Club in North Conway, NH. He also enjoyed bowling and golfing, and was a lifelong member of the DLKV Lithuanian Club of Lowell. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Joseph C. “Buster” Varanoske of Chicago, IL and Leila Varanoske of Dracut; his grandson Christopher A. Conner of Dracut; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother George Varanoske. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut on Tuesday, July 1st from 5 until 8 PM. His Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 2nd at 9 AM followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Michael Church, Lowell. Interment to follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one’s charity of choice.
