Thaddeus Szarek

Dracut, MA- Thaddeus E. Szarek, 79, died peacefully, Monday, September 21st, at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Veronica H. (Moriarty)  Szarek, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. Thaddeus was born in Lowell, MA on October 21, 1935, a son of the late Cecilia (Cebula) Golen and Walter Szarek. He was educated in Lowell and a graduate of Lowell High School. In 1954, Ted enlisted in the US Air Force where he reached the rank of Staff Sgt. and served his country proudly during the Korean War until being honorably discharged in 1958. For more than 30 years, Ted was employed as a Clerk for the US Post Office in Dracut. Ted was always a dedicated and devoted Dad, having coached his children and many other Dracut children in numerous sporting activities and also served as President of Dracut Pop Warner for many years. Ted also loved being outdoors, whether he was doing yard work, fishing or hunting. He was also an avid football and baseball fan.  Along with his wife Veronica, Ted is survived and will be deeply missed by his four children: Karen Bemis and her husband Paul of Bristol, NH, James Szarek and his wife Danielle of Lowell, Michael Szarek and his wife Sandra of Dracut and Cynthia Manning and her husband Nolan of Chester, NH; three sisters, Helen Goulas and her husband Steven, Sophie Frawley and Jane Wilkins all of Dracut,  7 grandchildren: Kristen Gould and her husband Robert, Jamie, Matthew, and Katherine Bemis, Nicolette Szarek and Jeffrey and Chloe Manning, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Frances Jusczak and his stepbrother, Rudy Golen.  ARRANGEMENTS:  Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on THURSDAY from 4-7 p.m. at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, MA. His funeral will take place from the funeral home at 9 a.m. on FRIDAY with his funeral Mass to follow at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church in Lowell. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Thaddeus’ name to the Alzheimer’s Association 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
