Roberta Tharpe

Lowell, MA- Roberta A. (Guthrie) Tharpe, 77, passed away Wednesday, July 15th, peacefully, at her home with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Marvin L. Tharpe, until he passed away in 1971. Roberta was born in Maine on January 7, 1938, a daughter of the late Mabel P. (Nickerson) and Roland H. Guthrie. For almost 30 years, Roberta worked as a Library Aide for Greater Lowell Technical Vocational High School, where she instilled a love for reading in countless students over the years. Roberta loved to travel, especially with her sister. She enjoyed quilting and sewing, and spent much of her spare time gardening. Above all, her most cherished time was spent with her loving family. Roberta is survived and will be deeply missed by her 6 children, Rich Tharpe and his wife Cheryl of Lowell, Debbie Mitchell and her husband Don of Pelham, Steve Tharpe and his wife Norma of Pelham, Mike Tharpe and his companion Tina Klier of Dracut, Terry Joyce and her husband Tom of Tyngsboro, and Dave Tharpe of Lowell; 11 grandchildren, Rick, Joe, Jesse, Donny, Andrea, Holly, Heidi, Kim, Amanda, Chris, and Nick; three great grandchildren, Lucas, Thomas, and Nicholas; four siblings, Ruth McCartney and her husband Steve of Westford, Doc Guthrie and his wife Marikay of Lowell, Diane Sadowski and her husband Bob of Methuen, and Christine Bailey and her husband Kevin of Florida; her brother-in-law, Raleigh Tharpe and his wife Diane of South Carolina; her dear friends, Claire, Priscilla, Alex, Virginia, and Michelle; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Roberta was predeceased by her son, Robert M. “Robbie” Tharpe. ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects from 1 to 5 p.m. on SUNDAY, July 19th at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Ave., Dracut. Her funeral will be held on MONDAY from the funeral home at 8 a.m. with her funeral Mass to follow at 9 a.m. at St. Rita’s Church in Lowell.
