DRACUT, MA- Rita B. (Roberts) Coughlin, 88, passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, December 10th, at her home, surrounded by her devoted and loving family. Rita was born in Lowell, MA on May 23, 1926, a daughter of the late John J. and Anna V. (Garrity) Roberts. She was educated in Lowell and a graduate of Lowell High School. She lived through the Great Depression in a little Irish home with her parents and 11 brothers and sisters. She married the late Francis E. Coughlin in 1948 and began the next chapter of her remarkably brave and happy life. For many years, Rita worked as the district manager for the former Yum Yum Shops in Lowell, Chelmsford and Dracut. She was incredibly proud of her career and was known far and wide for her dedication and quick smile. Rita embraced her many roles ~ daughter, sister, mother, Nana, Nannie and sweet and funny friend. She was smart and strong, witty and supportive, kind and forgiving, unassuming and often “Bionic”. She was passionate about her family, her faith and her Red Sox and had a lot of luck and fun at the penny slots at Foxwoods. She left us with a laugh, a million rich memories, and more love than most ever experience. She had a mischievous zest for life and was as sweet as her chocolate cream pies and as snappy as her gingerbread men. Rita was treasured by her devoted children, Lois Bradbury and her husband Bill of Dracut; Dottie Bellemare and her husband Dave of Tyngsboro; Judy Coughlin of Dracut, with whom she made her home; Lee Coughlin and her husband Al Cooper of Amesbury; Fran Coughlin and his wife Katie of Mattapoisett; and Dan Coughlin and his wife Mary Jaye Simms of Los Angeles, CA; who all thought they were her “favorite”. She was cherished by her grandchildren, Katie (Themeles) Hudzick and her husband Steven; Daniel Themeles and his wife Stephanie; Tracy (Bellemare) Encarnacao and husband John; Todd Bellemare and his wife Andrea; Erin Shanahan and her husband Randy Negron; Adam Shanahan and his husband John; Kyle Shanahan; Anna (Cooper) Sedenka and her husband Brett; Tess Cooper-O’Neill and her husband Brian; Kelsey Coughlin and Rylie Coughlin; all whom she thought were “perfect in every way”. She was adored by her great grandchildren, Chloe, Macy and Maggie Hudzick; Trevor and Olivia Encarnacao; Jordan and Lia Bellemare; Emily Negron; Jack O’Neill; Cora and Avery Sedenka; all who loved the million kisses from Nannie. Rita is also survived by 6 of her beloved siblings, Eileen Shea, Sister Helen Roberts, O.S.F., Lally Curran, Fred, Paul and Walter Roberts her sisters in law, Theresa and Karen Roberts, and many nieces, nephews, grand and great nieces and nephews. Rita was a tiny girl who lived a big life, laughed much more than she cried, and loved more than most. She will be dearly missed and oh, so lovingly remembered by a grateful family and dear, dear friends.
