Eleanor Priestley

Sagamore Beach, MA- Eleanor M. Priestley, 95 1/2, former resident of Sagamore Beach MA and Bradenton Florida, died peacefully Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at D’Youville Manor Nursing Home in Lowell surrounded by her loving family. Eleanor was born in Lawrence on February 23, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Harry Priestley and Mary (Tordoff) Priestley. She received her education in the Lowell School System and was a graduate of Lowell High School. She then graduated from UMASS Lowell, the former Lowell Teachers College with her bachelors degree and then received her higher degrees from Boston University. She later went on and received advanced degrees from Harvard University. For over 42 years, Eleanor was employed for the Town of Bourne School System. She worked various positions including as a teacher, principal, and director of curriculum. Eleanor loved traveling with her family and friends. She visited various places including Australia, Hawaii, and numerous locations in Europe, including visiting family in England. Eleanor was a talented artist who loved painting. She was also a 72 year member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was also a member of the Sagamore Mother’s Club for many years. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her three sisters, Charlotte P. Johnson of Dracut, Priscilla P. Lenox and her husband of George S. of Wolfeboro, NH, and Janet P. Richardson and her husband Gilbert C. of Dracut; eight nieces and nephews Sarah Hirst, Joseph Priestley Jr., Jennifer Craig, Stewart Lenox, Pamela O’Connor, Mary Bedell, Eleanor “Ellie” Benedix, and David Lenox; as well as many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews; and very dear friends. She was predeceased by her brothers William M. and Joseph A. Priestley Sr.; her sister Marion P. Carver as well as her nephews Harry Johnson and William Priestley and her niece Carole Priestley. ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut on SUNDAY, August 10th from 3 – 6 PM. Her Funeral will take place from the funeral home on MONDAY, August 11th at 10 AM followed by her Funeral Service at 11 AM in Christ Church United of Dracut. Interment to follow in West Parish Cemetery, Andover. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eleanor Priestley may be made to The University of Massachusetts Lowell in support of the Eleanor Priestley Scholarship Fund.
